Developed, translucent cherry red color with moderately developed brick hue. Very complex and even somewhat funky nose with attractive aromas of leather and barnyard, some minty herbal character, a little bit of wizened black cherry, hints of ripe blackcurrants and a touch of leafy Cab character. The wine feels smooth, medium-to-moderately full-bodied and surprisingly dense on the palate with complex flavors of ripe red cherries, peppermint, some ripe blackcurrant-driven dark berries, a little bit of supple plummy fruits, a hint of leather and a touch of cedar. The velvety texture here is very lovely, not really lending that much weight to the wine but more richness instead. The wine feels surprisingly wound-up for one at 30 years of age with its high acidity and still moderately grippy medium-plus tannins, but still open enough to keep the fruit well on the fore and even lending a hint of sweetness to the fruit. The lengthy finish seems somewhat restrained yet relatively expressive with light yet complex flavors of leather, some ripe blackcurrant, a little bit of soft plummy fruit, mature savory hints of cedar and tobacco and a touch of dried dark fruits. A beautiful, very harmonious and really complex Pessac-Léognan claret that really took me by surprise - I hadn't much expectations, but this wine really overperformed at all levels. Most of the other people in the tasting weren't that charmed by the funky edge of this wine, but to me, this was perhaps the wine of the evening. Although quite developed, I'm still not 100% certain whether the wine is at its peak yet - the wine isn't certainly going to fall apart anytime soon and it feels like there is still some room left for improvement.

Fresh mushroom, milk chocolate, blackberry and prune follow through to a full body, with soft, velvety tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Still shows lovely fruit and caressing tannins. Complex and cuddly. Will improve with age.
