Cellar Tracker April - 2022
Cellar Tracker
Explosive nose displaying unbelievably concentrated black fruit, crushed blackberry, blackberry concentrated, a hint of exotic green/stem, lavender, licorice, mint, sea salt, tapenade, dark spices and scorched earth. Exceptional concentrated, layers upon layers of concentrated black fruit, rich and unctuous but also beautifully balanced, still noticeable but nonobtrusive tannins and the finish that never ends. Although very youthful, generous expressive black fruit makes it immensely enjoyable. This is Cote Rotie Jamet on steroid.

Jancis Robinson September - 2022

Smoky, with a blend of game and succulent black fruit on the nose. Unlike most other vintages, the Brune here has a softer palate than the straight Côte Rôtie. Supple black fruit and fresh, vivid acidity marry perfectly in this youthful, fine example. This actually tightens a little with more air, the structure increasing in presence with whole-bunch spice. Harmonious, and very long. A great life ahead.

Domaine Jamet

Domaine Jamet is one of the great icons of the northern Rhône Valley. Founded in 1950 by Joseph Jamet with a modest plot of 0.35 hectares on the Côte Brune, the domaine initially sold its harvest to négociants before bottling its own wine for the first time in 1976, the year Jean-Paul joined the estate. After the vineyard was developed by brothers Jean-Paul and Jean-Luc, followed by their amicable separation in 2013, Jean-Paul continues the venture with his wife Corinne and their son Loïc, the third generation of winegrowers.

Located at the lieu-dit "Le Vallin", on the plateau behind Ampuis, the domaine cultivates a true mosaic of plots scattered across the steep hillsides of the Côte-Rôtie appellation, terraced on predominantly schist soils. This parcel dispersion lies at the heart of the Jamet style: rather than fashionable single-vineyard cuvées, the domaine champions the blending of terroirs to express the full complementarity of the cru. Vinification is traditional, with a significant proportion of whole-cluster grapes, indigenous yeasts and a patient, measured ageing process.

The flagship cuvée remains the "classic" Côte-Rôtie, complemented by the rare Côte Brune, the Fructus Voluptas cuvée, a Condrieu Vernillon vinified by Loïc since 2015, as well as Côtes du Rhône and IGP Collines Rhodaniennes wines. Deep and marked by notes of black olive and smoke, with an immense ageing potential, the Syrahs from Domaine Jamet rank among the most sought-after wines in the Rhône Valley.
