Jean-Marc Quarin April - 2013
Jean-Marc Quarin
Coppery color. Smooth, complex, sophisticated, subtle, noble nose. Superb entry on the palate, fascinating with its crystalline texture, then the wine melts, rich, with flavor before extending into a great savory and refined finish where orange and candied white fruits return. Superb!

(1995) One of the most magnificent of all Climens vintages. Despite its richness, crisp, minty, ripe nectarines, creme brulée, perfect flavour, weight and balance with creamy texture and infinite aftertaste.

Jancis Robinson October - 2010

Bright glowing orange. Less intense than the 1948 and drying finish. Barley-sugar essence and slightly burnt on the finish. Drying finish. But fabulous that it has lasted this long.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Tasted at the 1947 dinner at The Square, London. One of the legendary Barsac wines of the vintage, the Climens ’47 remains a compelling sweet wine that has held up extraordinarily well over six decades. Here, it has a potent marmalade and tangerine scented bouquet that suggests this Climens was born laden with botrytis. The palate is endowed with thecorpulence and unctuousness synonymous with the vintage with a richly textured, honey and quince finish. It is a hedonistic treat, although perhaps it now does not quite have the class of the exquisite 1949.

Château Climens
Château Climens is a 30-hectare wine estate located in Barsac, Gironde. In the Barsac AOC, it is classified as a Premier Grand Cru in the official 1855 Bordeaux classification. The 30-hectare continuous vineyard sits on red clay-sand soil over limestone. The grape variety is 100% Sémillon (one of the few single-variety vineyards in the region), with a density of 6,600 vines/ha and an average vine age of 35 years. Climens produces only sweet white wine. Climens' yields are particularly low, averaging 7 hl/ha, or even 4 hl/ha in difficult years, allowing for exceptional quality and concentration. The estate produces a second wine called Cyprès de Climens or Les Cyprès de Climens, in memory of a curious tradition: when boats paid their toll (right of passage) on the Ciron, they were given a blue cypress branch to prove payment. Outstanding vintages: 1971, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990, 2001, 2005. Overall, the wines produced at Climens are consistently high-flying and of high quality. This is due to the high-quality production standards demanded by Bérénice Lurton and her team.
