Expert's opinions

(4-2001) A superb effort, the 1998 may be the finest Clerc-Milon I have tasted. A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot, this is a blockbuster, over-sized offering for this estate. Full-bodied and super-extracted, with power to burn, this rich, concentrated wine

Wonderful nose of fresh strawberries and herbs. Again, fresh strawberries and a touch of dark fruits emerging on the palate. Medium ruby with no sign of age. Medium plus acidity with a weightless feel. Such an easy wine to drink. Still has more to reveal. The last bottle i had was 21 years ago. More power and dark fruit then. Look forward to trying it again in the future. Enjoy now with anything that has black truffles in it.

Strong ruby red, still few signs of age. The nose shows a mix of ripe, dark fruit and tertiary aromas, tobacco, leather, cedarwood and blackcurrants as well as plum aromas compete for attention. On the palate powerful, with still good fruit, the tannins are somewhat flaky, not as fine as in younger vintages, giving the wine a somewhat rustic character. On the finish with good length, ending on tobacco, dark berries and herbs. This wine currently offers the highest drinking pleasure, but definitely needs a piece of meat as accompaniment.

Château Clerc Milon
Since 1933, in Pauillac, Médoc, Société Baron Philippe de Rothschild has been driven by a constant ambition: to make the world's finest wines, each in its category. With its Château wines, which it manages, such as the illustrious Château Mouton Rothschild, First Growth of Pauillac, and its brilliant seconds Château Clerc Milon and Château d'Armailhac. Clerc Milon is a beautiful Pauillac, with wonderful aromatic complexity. Notes of currants, violet, freshly picked berries with a vanilla and mineral touch can be found both on the nose and palate. Clerc Milon is very well positioned to be among the best vintages of this estate. Generally quite early-maturing, the 1998 Clerc Milon is already delicious. It shows density and substance and, with incredible charm, intoxicates with subtle and intense perfumes with unmatched precision. A great, accessible Pauillac.
