CHÂTEAU LATOUR MARTILLAC 2009
The rainy and cold winter followed by a spring was rather favorable to the vineyard, but violent hailstorms affected some of the plots in May. The magnificent summer, hot but not scorching, produced fruity grapes in perfect health. The splendid end of the season allowed us to reach ideal maturity with complete peace of mind.
The Cabernet Sauvignon are concentrated, elegant, fruity and fresh. The Merlots, very sweet, produced rather alcoholic wines, but without unbalancing the blend. This beautiful maturity brings a creamy character coating powerful tannins.

Expert's opinions
Deep garnet robe with purple reflections. Deep nose of ripe black and red fruits. Biscuity oak with fine grain. On the palate, an ample and melted entry with well-integrated and refined tannins then a firmer and more austere mid-palate and finish. Greater integration still needs to be achieved.

Already delicious, this wine shows its wood aging with such finesse, while letting its elegant white-fruit flavor come through. It has an herbaceous edge, rounded out with a more ripe fruit character. This is meant for aging.

Truffle, tobacco, cigar box and smoke are joined by bright red fruits in the nose. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, soft, elegant tannins and ripe cherries with a touch of spice and olives in the finish. The wine still seems youthful, so another few years of bottle age will help add even more softness and complexity to the wine. Smoky red fruits, vanilla, tobacco and earthy aromatics create the nose. On the palate, the wine has soft, fresh, elegant characteristics, polished tannins and sweetness in the fruits on the back end. This has aged quite nicely.

Offers a very solid core of black Mission fig, blackberry preserves and freshly roasted espresso flavors, woven nicely with hints of alder wood, tar and pastis. The long finish shows polish, with nice grip in reserve.

Lovely berry with a bit of earthiness in the nose. Similar flavors, lots of savory flavors, great palate coverage, and very nice finish.

First bottle a bit corky. Second very fresh and winning with real appeal. Sweet and with some drive. Though a bit of a hole in the middle.
