Château Marquis de Terme is a 40-hectare wine estate located in the village of Margaux, in the heart of the Margaux appellation in the Médoc vineyard. Its wine is classified as a Fourth Growth in the official 1855 Bordeaux wine classification.

The grape variety composition of Château Marquis de Terme consists of the noble Bordeaux grape varieties: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot. It produces a great wine for aging, elegant and fine, worthy of the great Bordeaux wines. As well as another red wine, the "Cuvée 1762", a date that marked the beginning of the estate's history.

The history of Château Marquis de Terme

  

The history of Château Marquis de Terme begins in 1762 when the property was ceded by Mademoiselle Ledoux d'Emplet to her future husband François de Peguilhan Marquis de Terme. She brought him the estate as a dowry, which would henceforth bear his title.

 

Thomas Jefferson, in France since 1785 and about to become the 3rd President of the United States, exercised his function as a wine broker and stayed at Château Marquis de Terme in 1787 before ranking it among the 16 best wines he had tasted.

 

Due to the French Revolution, several families succeeded each other at the head of Château Marquis de Terme, but only one deeply marked its history; the Feuillerat family. They managed the estate for more than 120 years before becoming its owners. Thus, for 3 generations, the family contributed to improving the quality of the Château's wines.

 

The Feuillerat heirs emerged ruined from the 1929 crisis and sold Château Marquis de Terme to the Sénéclauze family in 1935. Since 2009, its management has been entrusted to general manager Ludovic David, who has undertaken numerous innovations and brought new dynamism.

 

What are the characteristics of Château Marquis de Terme wines?

 

The vineyard of Château Marquis de Terme, located in the communes of Margaux and Cantenac, extends over 40 hectares of gravelly soils typical of the terroir, locally clayey. It is planted with noble Bordeaux grape varieties: about 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot. The vines are on average 35 years old.

 

In the grand red wine Château Marquis de Terme, we find the characteristics of Margaux appellation wines: finesse, elegance, and delicacy. The aromas have notes of red and black fruits, pepper, and roasted flavors. The tannins are powerful. This balance brings a silky side and a beautiful freshness.

The grand vin of Château Marquis de Terme is a wine for aging, worthy of the great classified growths of Bordeaux, combining both tradition and modernity.

 

The Château produces another red wine, the "Cuvée 1762", which bears the date of the beginning of the estate's history and represents the typicity of its terroir; 26 vineyard plots make up this timeless cuvée.

 

There is also a gourmet and very elegant rosé under the "Côtes de Provence" appellation, Le Rosé de Marquis, selected in the Bordeaux tradition and vinified in the Esterel massif near Fréjus, respecting the Provence terroir.
