Clos de Gamot
The vineyard. Clos de Gamot is a vineyard of 15 hectares with a single grape, Malbec, a beautiful clay-siliceous, with shingle and flint. Some of the vines, still in production, at 120 years old. Planted just after the phylloxera in 1885 by the ancestors of the family Jouffreau, these old vines have very low yields of 15-20 hl / ha... The other part of the vineyards ranging in age from 40 to 70 years also has very limited returns of about 40 hl / ha. . . The vineyards are worked by plowing the soil, without chemical herbicides, 10 to 12 tillages are performed in a season. . . The harvest starting around 20 September are made by hand for the old vines. . . Winemaking. The plots are vinified separately in small volume tank to keep up the specifics of each region. The fermentation time is around 21 days, these being driven by taste and expertise of the family Jouffreau. . . Extraction methods have remained traditional and very friendly character of the vintage. We prefer to work winding gently to obtain a harmonious structure of our vintages. . . The blending of different wines with their specific characters ensures the exceptional quality of the wines of Clos de Gamot and their fabulous potential for aging. . Ageing . Ageing in half barrels is done for 18 to 24 months depending on the vintage. Pumping over, tastings, blendings punctuate this time of ageing for which the tannic structure swells and releases many complex flavors. . . .
