Château Clos de Gamot
Clos de Gamot
The vineyard Clos de Gamot is a 15-hectare vineyard with a single grape variety, Malbec, on a magnificent clay-siliceous terroir with pebbles and flint. Part of the vines, still in production, is 120 years old. Planted just after phylloxera in 1885 by the Jouffreau family's ancestors, these centenary vines have very low yields of 15 to 20 hl/ha. The other part of the vineyard, ranging from 40 to 70 years old, also has very limited yields of about 40 hl/ha. The vines are worked by soil plowing, without chemical herbicides, with 10 to 12 cultural operations performed in a season. The harvest, which begins around September 20, is done by hand for the old vines. The vinification The plots are vinified separately in small volume vats to preserve the specificities of each terroir to the maximum. The vatting lasts around 21 days, guided by tasting and the Jouffreau family's expertise. The extraction methods have remained traditional and very respectful of the vintage's character. We favor gentle pumping over to obtain a harmonious structure in our cuvées. The blending of different cuvées with their specificities ensures the exceptional quality of Clos de Gamot wines as well as their fabulous aging potential. The aging Aging in large oak vats and demi-muids is carried out for 18 to 24 months depending on the vintage. Topping up, racking, tastings, and blending punctuate this aging period during which the tannic structure rounds out and releases numerous complex aromas.
