First tasted in 1995 at John Jenkin's Bordeaux Club dinner, noting the refreshing '86 lemon-like acidity on the nose, and oak; fairly sweet, mellow (character, not acidity) and mouthfilling, fully evolved, excellent acidity. Several notes since: in full bloom, 'almost New World' (heaven forbid!) at Decanter's 20th anniversary lunch (1997); and a return to Childerly Hall. A very good, positive colour; very rich, minty bouquet; indeed richness the operative word. Perfection.

Château Domaine Bonneau du Martray
Domaine Bonneau du Martray
A family property for almost two centuries, the Bonneau du Martray vineyard is located on the Corton hill, in the heart of the original Corton-Charlemagne appellation area. It constitutes the largest entity and encompasses the famous hillside sector that was already renowned in the Carolingian era. Thus, the estate is exclusively dedicated to producing two Grands Crus: Corton-Charlemagne, which is its flagship wine Corton, a red interpretation of the same terroir Its production, derived from old vines with meticulously selected plants and controlled yields, is the result of constant work whose quality is recognized by the greatest critics and connoisseurs. The care and constant attention given to both the vineyard and the cellar have earned it a worldwide reputation and a presence at the finest tables. Its wines are meant for long aging. This is why the Bonneau du Martray estate has the particularity of offering "ready to drink" vintages to discerning gourmets. This allows them immediate access to wines that are close to their peak. The estate dedicates itself as intensively as possible to its role as a producer. As such, they regret being unable to welcome private individuals for visits and tastings. However, direct sales remain possible for French residents.
