Picpoul de Pinet Appellation

Between Pézenas and Sète, the Picpoul de Pinet appellation spans six communes whose vineyards slope gently toward the Étang de Thau lagoon. Recognized as an appellation in its own right in 2013, it is one of the few Languedoc appellations devoted exclusively to white wine, made from a single grape variety: Piquepoul Blanc, an ancestral variety whose name is said to evoke the acidity that “prickles the lips.” On limestone soils, in a Mediterranean climate tempered by sea breezes, it produces fresh, pale wines with green highlights. Lively and elegant, Picpoul de Pinet offers aromas of citrus and white flowers, with a saline, briny finish. An ideal match for Bouzigues oysters and seafood, it is one of Languedoc’s most emblematic white wines.
