The Abbaye de Morgeot is a wine estate located in Chassagne Montrachet on the Côte de Beaune. The vineyard covers 9 hectares, spread across the communes of Chassagne Montrachet and Puligny Montrachet, mainly in premier crus (6.5 hectares). Since arriving in Burgundy in the 18th century, the Mac Mahon family has been cultivating vineyards on the Côte de Beaune. But it was in the 1960s that the family estate in Chassagne-Montrachet became the pride of Philippe de Mac Mahon, 4th Duke of Magenta, descendant of the Dukes of Burgundy. Philippe de Mac Mahon passed on this passion for wine cultivation to his wife before his death in January 2002. Today, the Duchess of Magenta has become a true cellar master: continuing to keep the Domain at the Abbaye de Morgeot alive while thinking about improving production techniques to offer wines that best reflect all the colors of this fabulous terroir is what motivates her above all today. Today, the emphasis is on mechanical work in the vineyards, with the aim of avoiding herbicide treatments as much as possible. The heavy soil of the Clos de la Chapelle at the Abbaye de Morgeot makes the passage of the straddle tractor extremely difficult or even impossible in wet weather.
