The 2009 Cornas Les Chailles’s inky purple color is followed by notes of sweet fruits, a sexy (a term I rarely use for Cornas) style, low acidity, silky tannins, full body and layer upon layer of black fruits, licorice and barbecue smoke.

This has great grip from the start, exhibiting a tapenade and iron frame to the lively blackberry, currant and anise flavors at the core. Lots of briar and bay leaf notes chime in on the finish, as the fruit stays persistent as well. Should age nicely. Rock-solid.

The Alain Voge estate is a producer of Rhône wines. Alain Voge took over the family business in 1962. At that time, the estate was just a vast field of fruit trees planted between a few vines. It wasn't until 1978 that Alain Voge decided to leave his profession as a nurseryman to focus solely on wine production. Taking advantage of the growing reputation of Cornas wines, in 1981 Alain Voge began significant renovation work on his vineyard. Over the years, and after hard work, Alain Voge developed his estate and created new cuvées under several appellations: Saint-Péray, Saint-Joseph, Cornas and Côtes du Rhône.

Today, the Alain Voge estate covers nearly 13 hectares. The average age of the vines is 50 years and harvesting is done by hand. The grape varieties produced are Syrah for the reds and Marsanne for the whites.

In 2006, the Alain Voge estate began its conversion to organic viticulture, in order to adopt an eco-responsible approach. This conversion started with the white wine parcels, followed by the red wine parcels in 2009. It wasn't until 2016 that the estate obtained organic and biodynamic farming certification.
