Vintages Review of the 1992 vintage by SoDivin 30 July 2024 30 July 2024 12K views 12K 1992 vintage: a mixed vintage The 1992 vintage is rather average in Bordeaux. The winegrowers unfortunately suffered the consequences of the previous year’s frost. Indeed, 1992 was a year with changing climatic conditions: early flowering, a very hot and dry start to the summer, heavy rains in August until September… Which consequently disrupted the smooth running of the harvests and imposed a strict selection of the grapes during sorting. However, the work and know-how of the winegrowers made it possible to produce very fine wines. The first and second classified growths such as Château Mouton Rothschild 1992, Haut Brion 1992, or Château Lafite Rothschild 1992 have managed to stand out with supple and elegant wines. Wines of the Pomerol appellation are successful, such as Petrus or Château Trotanoy. The climatic conditions also impact the Burgundy region. 1992 is a complicated vintage as is the wine aging. However, the best red wines of 1992 are very structured and have fat. The Beaune, Pommard and Volnay appellations are more qualitative with wines with solid structures and beautiful fruit. The white wines of Burgundy are of superior quality. 1992 is a good vintage in the Champagne region. The harvest was abundant and of good quality. The Champagnes of 1992 are very good. Beautiful wines, very gourmet, with a beautiful aromatic freshness and brioche notes. If you want to buy a 1992 wine or taste a 1992 wine, Champagnes are to be preferred. Finally, the 1992 Rhône wines are of a slightly higher quality than the previous vintage, notably the wines of the Southern Rhône with the appellations Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côtes-du-Rhône, Gigondas, etc. See all our 1992 wine bottles in stock Our suggestions for the 1992 vintage In Bordeaux, we recommend the Domaine de Chevalier 1992. In the Pessac-Léognan appellation, it is among the classified growths of Graves. Rated 18/20 by the specialist magazine La Revue du Vin de France. As for Rhône wines, we recommend the Domaine Chapoutier De l’Orée Blanc 1992 in the Hermitage blanc appellation. This great Rhône wine is mature and rated 96/100 by Robert Parker, when tasted it is described as “thick and juicy”. To help you choose your bottle, our team is at your disposal to advise you.
