millésime 1955

The 1955 vintage was successful for all wines in all regions. It remains especially a good year for whites.

Bordeaux

The year was scorching with 52 consecutive days without rain. Due to the heat, maturation was slowed down. 1955 is less renowned than 1953 and 1959, yet it is a very good vintage, structured and concentrated. Over time, the wines open up and offer charm and fullness.

“The 1950s were, for the quality of the wines, a decade of the century” according to the Cazes family. Odd years leave a wonderful memory. In sweet wines, the vintage is remarkable, almost perfect. The greatest châteaux are still good today.

Bordeaux vines

Bourgogne

The weather conditions are generally good despite the cold in June which delays flowering. For the harvest, the weather is perfect. The grapes are good, the wines are deep but short. The natural degree at 15° is fascinating in Corton Charlemagne. The whites are very good. They are elegant and well balanced.

Burgundy vines

Champagne

The frosts in May did not affect the yields of the vintage, which are the highest since 1934. The quality is there. The wines are powerful, elegant, superb and intended for aging.

Rhône

The maturity is perfect. The wines are rich in natural sugar. The vintage offers great aging potential in the great reds.
