Discover our complete opinion on the 1973 vintage in all the major wine regions of France. See all wines of 1973 vintage The 1973 vintage in the Bordeaux wine region The 1973 vintage is a difficult vintage in Bordeaux. The climatic conditions were changeable and complicated. Several episodes of rain occurred during the harvest. The result is pleasant wines that could have been better. The 1973 Bordeaux wines are not wines for laying down. They lack a bit of richness and structure. Despite the few disappointments, the wines of Pomerol and Graves stand out and are very good. The 1973 Sauternes are very successful. Despite the unstable climatic conditions, the sweet wines are supple and elegant. We recommend Château Coutet 1973 or Château d’Yquem 1973. Burgundy wines of 1973 The 1973 vintage is correct in Burgundy. The grapes were harvested at good maturity after a healthy and abundant harvest. The 1973 Burgundy red wines are successful and already very evolved. They stand out thanks to their elegance, their finesse, and their very concentrated fruit aromas. Regarding the white Burgundy wines of 1973, these are wines of character which have interesting aromatic bouquets. Our opinion on the Rhône wines of the 1973 vintage In the Rhône Valley, the 1973 vintage is mixed. However, we are talking about a decent vintage. Climatic conditions were favorable throughout the year with a hot and dry summer. However, the autumn rains had a slight impact on the harvests. The greatest successes of the vintage are in the Côte-Rôtie appellation, Hermitage and the wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape which are particularly pleasant. Champagne of 1973 The Champagne vineyards experienced rather mild climatic conditions during 1973. The 1973 vintage in Champagne is therefore satisfactory. A great success after a disappointing 1972 vintage. The Champagnes are fruity and balanced. With a beautiful minerality, the great Champagne Houses such as Krug, Veuve Clicquot or Perrier Jouët offer beautiful wines. The result was an abundant harvest of wines which were not bad but which could have been better. A decent vintage.” Discover Château Pavie 1973 Château d’Yquem 1973 Rated 87/100 by Jean-Marc Quarin in may 2014 “Copper color. Fruity and simple nose.
