Tom Cannavan January - 2009
Tom Cannavan
Espresso coffee and sweet balsamic aromas flood the nose of this wine, which retains a little ruby at the core amongst some tawny tones. There is plenty of voluptuous, spicy oak, but the fruit has a strawberry softness, with touches of plump Agen prune and some liquorice or caraway seed. The palate has truffle and damp, sweet earth, a touch of something animal, and a mentholy, black fruit sweetness. More of that espresso builds on the finish, with fully resolved, suede-like tannins and perfectly tempered acidity. A balanced and utterly beautiful wine.

Coffee and roasted herb flavours with sweet cedar notes. This is a complex, layered Unico with a meaty, generous palate. Long finish.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 1969 Unico is showing a little fatigue on the nose, opening up with aeration to reveal forest floor, sandalwood and bay leaf. The palate is medium-bodied with a simple, leather and mandarin-tinged entry. It is sedate, refined but not a complex Unico. It sports a very conservative finish that tapers away. Having said that, returning after 20 minutes, it appears to gain brightness and vivacity, exhibiting impressive tension on the finish.

Mid depth of mature dark ruby. Heady, treacly nose. Just a little sweet and lacking freshness. Dusty finish. Just starting to lose fruit.
