Château Trotanoy
Château Trotanoy, Pomerol and Lalande-de-Pomerol. This illustrious growth, whose name meant "too much trouble" or "too annoying" in old French (referring to working the land), is located on one of the best-exposed parts of the famous Pomerol plateau and was acquired in 1953 by Etablissements Jean-Pierre MOUEIX, who have been operating it since. The mixed soil composition – half gravel over clay and half deep black clay – on a bed of iron deposits gives the wine both power and depth as well as great complexity. The Château TROTANOY vineyard, partly spared by the dramatic frosts of 1956, has an average age of nearly 35 years. It is cultivated using traditional methods (regular plowing, thinning, leaf removal) and ideally harvested over two or three afternoons. Fermentation takes place in concrete vats, and the young wine is then aged in oak barrels, half of which are renewed each year. Château TROTANOY is among the most sought-after wines of the appellation and can be kept for several decades in great vintages.
