(4-1992). Here is an example of a wine that had a rather delicate, fruity character that has now been overwhelmed by the excessive use of new oak barrels. The result is a wine that smells like a brand new whiskey barrel, with flavors of oak that have crushed much of the wine's finesse and elegance. Perhaps the fruit will emerge with bottle age, but I am suspicious.

Château Smith Haut-Lafitte is a 68-hectare wine estate located in Martillac, Gironde. Situated in the Pessac-Léognan AOC, it is classified as a grand cru in the Graves wine classification. The terroir consists of Günzian gravel, with vines averaging 30 years old. For red wines, the grape composition is 34% Merlot, 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. For white wines, it's 90% Sauvignon Blanc, 5% Sauvignon Gris, and 5% Sémillon. The planting density ranges from 7,500 to 10,000 vines per hectare. The vineyard covers 56 hectares, with 45 hectares for red wine and 11 hectares for white wine. Without a doubt, the exemplary elegance of Smith Haut Lafitte's red wines and the sophisticated bouquet of its world-renowned white wine deserve this daily care.
