Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
A much lighter style of wine, but showing far better now that it has had some time in bottle. Medium ruby, with a classic nose of kirsch liqueur intermixed with Provencal herbs, sandy, loamy soil notes, some licorice and steak tartare, this wine is fleshy, medium to full-bodied, round, generous, and surprisingly seductive and luscious. I wouldn’t be surprised if many tasters prefer this over the bigger, richer, more structured and potentially far greater 2007, at least for the next 4-5 years. This is a sensational effort and one of the finest wines of the vintage, the most challenging year in Chateauneuf du Pape since the historical deluge in 2002.

An elegant style, with gentle cherry sauce, mulled raspberry and damson plum fruit lined with shiso leaf, rooibos tea, iron and sandalwood notes. A mineral twinge holds the finish, which is sneakily long.

Adrian van Velsen - vvWine
Rayas fragrance par excellence, lots of strawberries, spicy components, expressive, garrigue also some peat. The palate is velvety, the ripe, sweet fruit is tamed by fine-meshed tannin, mild acidity, great harmony, with excellent length on the finish. I admit, I almost prefer the Rayas from the cooler years to the wines from the very great years.

Château Rayas
Château Rayas

The Rayas estate is located in the southern Rhône Valley, in the heart of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. Founded by Albert Reynaud and passed down through four generations, this intimate family estate spans only 10 hectares and has established itself as a major reference among the great wines of the Rhône.

Long led by Emmanuel Reynaud, who recently passed away, the estate continues to perpetuate his legacy and singular vision of wine. The Reynaud family is also behind Domaine des Tours and Château de Fonsalette. At Rayas, Grenache is the sole grape variety for red wines, while white wines are crafted from Grenache and Clairette, in a style characterized by finesse, purity and terroir expression.

Among Rayas' iconic vintages are the Rayas 1990, Rayas 2006, Rayas 2007, Rayas 2009 and Rayas 1989, essential references of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
