Domaine Peyre Rose
Domaine Peyre Rose

Domaine Peyre Rose is one of the most mythical and most distinctive estates in the Languedoc. Perched on the heights of Saint-Pargoire, between Béziers and Montpellier, it is the work of a single woman: Marlène Soria, nicknamed the "Diva of Syrah." A former real estate agent who turned to winemaking out of passion, she cleared seventeen hectares of wild garrigue by hand in the early 1980s to plant her first vines — without machinery, without an electrical grid, without running water.

Her first vintage, vinified in 1988 under near-prehistoric conditions, was discovered and acclaimed by Robert Parker, instantly propelling this isolated estate to the rank of the great wines of the Languedoc. As early as 1994, the Revue du Vin de France awarded her the title of "Man of the Year" — an exceptional distinction for a self-taught winemaker operating from a farmhouse without electricity deep in the Languedoc garrigue.

What makes Peyre Rose absolutely unique is its relationship with time. The Languedoc's finest age-worthy wines never leave the estate before eight to ten years of ageing. When a new vintage is released by Marlène Soria, it is a wine already mature, already open, already expressive. The 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014 vintages rank among the greatest expressions of the estate.
