Jean-Marc Quarin May - 2012
Jean-Marc Quarin
This wine repeats its 2009 performance when it came out first among the 50 greatest Bordeaux of the vintage. I am surprised myself to prefer it to the 1998. However, Denis Durantou makes the same observation today about Eglise Clinet. The 1999s are delicious to drink at the moment. Evolved color of medium intensity. Moderately aromatic nose, fresh, young, fruity, licorice-like with a note of fresh cream. Smooth and tight palate developing deep and complex in the middle with lots of flavor and very fine tannins. Great ascending and complex finish. A delight at the moment.

Jeannie Cho Lee August - 2015

A gorgeous wine that is more accessible and open than the 1996 vintage. The palate is intense and layered with sweet cherry and plum accented by black truffle, leather and Pu'er tea leaves. This is a generous vintage that is enjoyable now with layers of flavors, wonderful balance and a long finish. Enjoy its mouth-filling flavors and ripe, velvety tannins. Despite its approachability, this wine has a long life ahead - it will easily age for a few more decades.

A pretty, fruity red with beautiful tobacco, berry and cedar. Medium-bodied, with good soft tannins and a pretty finish.

Very rich and spicy, this wine earns its special status in this vintage. Gloriously concentrated and hedonistic. Long and rich - very well done. Huge pleasure promised.

(4-2002) This wine is turning out much in the style of such wonderful Petrus vintages as 1967 and 1971. Although not as outstanding as either the 1998 or 2000, it displays beautiful intensity and finesse in a more evolved style than one normally expects from this estate. The wine has a dense, nearly opaque rubypurple color, sweet black cherry, mulberry, truffle-infused fruit, full body, low acidity, admirable purity, and sweet tannin.

The Petrus estate takes its name from the locality "Petrus". Its history is recent, yet this wine is already a legend. Throughout the 19th century, the estate belonged to the Arnaud family. From 1925, a woman from Libourne, Madame Loubat, acquired shares in the property. About twenty years later, she became the sole owner. Not accepting or understanding why Médoc wines were selling for higher prices than those from Pomerol, particularly her own, she did everything to make the most of such promising terroir. In a few decades, the myth was born. In 1961, Madame Lacoste and Monsieur Lignac, niece and nephew of Madame Loubat, inherited the estate. The vineyard is situated on the highest hill of the appellation, reaching an altitude of 40 meters. The soil, composed mainly of clay, is well-suited to Merlot, which makes up 95% of the grape varieties. The 12 hectares of the estate are subject to constant work and permanent attention to detail. Pétrus is considered a wine that is more accessible for tasting than some of its illustrious counterparts.
