Expert's opinions
Brilliantly concentrated from beginning to end; oozing with black cherry, currant, plum and anise aromas and flavors that are focused and elegant on the long finish. The tannins are sufficiently integrated to make it drinkable now with hearty food, but it's tough enough to need until 1996 to 2000 to settle down.

Agree with last post. Largely uninteresting and unexceptional, just an acidity streak running through faded fruit and some tertiary elements.

Burgundy color. Dark. Intense. Bright and beautiful. Medium intensity nose. Cherry and wood notes. Spicy hint. Well balanced. Intense agitation. Very fruity, vanilla and viandé. Appetizing. Soft, very fruity attack. Develops into a concentrated, straightforward structure with tasty, fresh, spicy and very well-balanced tannins that leave a fat, long and very aromatic finish. A very good wine.

The 1988 Pavie-Decesse has fine concentration, good length, an enticing bouquet of earthy, mineral, and exotic fruit, but tremendous tannin in the finish. Cellaring is most definitely needed.
