Red. Bordeaux. Light to medium intensity. Evolved. Clean. Medium intensity. Incense notes with an animal touch. Ditto. Soft attack developing on a light structure that rounds out in the mid-palate and evolves creamy on melted and rather savory tannins. Medium persistence on the fruit and spicy nuances. Pleasure rather than ageing potential. Drink while it has the charm of its fruit. The oak has integrated well over the past 2 years.

Although the light to medium ruby color suggests dilution, Pape-Clement's characteristically complex bouquet reveals aromas of tobacco, herbs, cedar, and sweet red and black fruits. Light-bodied, with low acidity, this pleasant but short wine lacks concentration. It does possess enough of this well-run estate's character to merit some attention. Drink it over the next 2-4 years.

Château Pape Clément is one of the major historic estates of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. Its history begins at the end of the 13th century, when Bertrand de Goth, future Pope Clement V, bequeathed his vineyard to the Archdiocese of Bordeaux. This direct link to the papacy gives the estate a unique heritage depth, making Château Pape Clément one of the oldest Bordeaux estates still in operation.

Classified as Grand Cru Classé de Graves in the official 1953 classification (revised in 1959), Château Pape Clément has established itself as an essential reference among the great wines of Pessac-Léognan, both in red and white. The vineyard, located at the gates of Bordeaux, sits on deep gravel soils mixed with clay and sand, favoring a refined and complex expression of Bordeaux grape varieties.

The grape varieties are primarily based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for the reds, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, while the whites rely on Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. Château Pape Clément's wines are distinguished by their aromatic intensity, silky texture and balance between power and elegance.

Recognized for their great aging potential, the estate's wines traverse decades with ease.
