Expert's opinions

(5-2015) Here, it has a powerful, expressive nose with cedar, sous-bois and cigar-box scents interwoven into the vestiges of black fruit. This is "old school," perhaps the cousin of the magnificent 1966. The palate is medium-bodied and well balanced, hints of spice and cedar, a little dustiness perhaps towards the finish, but overall a convincing Margaux that has far more vigor and length than you would presume. While it is not a renowned vintage for Château Palmer, it's a wine I would jump upon if I found it for sale.

Jancis Robinson December - 2022
Jancis Robinson
This fully mature wine was absolutely glorious. Served blind alongside Hermitage La Chapelle from the same vintage, it was rounder and much more luscious. Tannins had completely disappeared, leaving wonderfully sweet, round, fully mature fruit and just the slightest suggestion of something charred on the finish. Excellent freshness as well as all that Merlot, presumably saved by the fine September. Michael Broadbent, in his Vintage Wine, calls this 'A lovely wine and a very good 1978'.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Past full maturity, this delivers more pleasure in the earthy, floral, tobacco and red fruit nose, than on the medium bodied, herb tinged, bright, red fruit palate. There is no reason to age this any longer, drink up, before more of the fruit fades into that good night.

Château Palmer
Château Palmer

Château Palmer is a wine estate located in Gironde. In the Margaux AOC, it is classified as a third growth in the official 1855 Bordeaux wine classification.

Château Palmer, a grand cru, is a matter of origin in both time and space. The style of Château Palmer, anchored in history and dedicated to expressing its terroir, transcends fashions and trends. To experience its timelessness, there is no better way than to taste it.

The wines of Château Palmer reveal a bouquet of extraordinary complexity where fruits, flowers and spices mingle, wrapped in a fleshy and generous structure. This subtle balance between aromatic richness and tannin power, always restrained, makes it a wine of incomparable charm from its youngest age. Its persistence leaves an intoxicating memory of mixed sensations and emotions.

The best vintages of Château Palmer are 1962, 1971, 1975, 1985, 1989, 1995, 1996, 2004, 2011...
