Dark color, good intensity, slightly evolved. Fine nose, fruity, smoky, with hints of coffee. As opposed to wine before, for lack of spice, it seems "cold". Superb entry into fresh mouth. The wine develops particularly aromatic and bursting with great taste in. Good build, a bit oaky, it ends on a sweet tannicité and a general profile charmer.

A little more obvious sweetness on the nose than the Haut-Brion. A hint of yeast extract. Not as graceful as Haut-Brion. Solid and not disappointing but earthbound. Not quite ready.

(3-2004).
Subtle and very perfumed with floral, currants, minerals and berry aromas with a hint of toasted barrels. Medium- to full-bodied, with an outstandingly refined core of fruit and smoky, earthy, berry and almost meaty character. It's long and caressing. Could use a bit more fruit to be up with the other first-growths.

(6-2004).
Performing well from bottle, Chateau Margaux’s 2001, which is somewhat reminiscent of both the 1985 and 1999, is an elegant, seamlessly constructed effort with a deep rubypurple color, and a beautiful nose of flowers, creme de cassis, blackberries, and cedar. A blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot, and 4% Cabernet Franc, this forward, opulent beauty can be drunk now or cellared for 15-20 years. This is one of the most elegant wines of the vintage.

Margaux

A privilege to bear the name of its appellation, for Chateau Margaux there is no doubt ample justification. For several centuries this Premier Cru has expressed the highest degree of quality of exceptional terroir patiently assembled by several generations of owners. Maintained and harvested exclusively by hand with extreme care, the 78 hectares of vines (75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) derive their wealth deep in the soil which is clayey gravelly and particularly dense and thick. The fermentation in oak vats, after which the wine is strictly selected, follows 18 to 24 months in new oak barrels. A masterpiece among Bordeaux, the best according to some, Château Margaux reveals the delicate taste and opulence, depth and complexity, and exudes a rare elegance of rose, violet, black fruit, suspended by tight tannins that require patient aging before the wine fully expresses itself. The château also produces a second wine, Pavillon Rouge de Château Margaux, and a dry white wine, Pavillon Blanc de Château Margaux.
