Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
A quick splash decant was all this beauty needed to discover its rich, ripe, full-bodied, concentrated and ready to go character. The wine is supple, deep, dark and as I mentioned, for a 2000, it’s delivering a lot of pleasure with its multiple layers of lusciously-textured fruit. Most of the tannin has melted away allowing this stunner to shine.

Falstaff March - 2015
Falstaff
Dark ruby garnet, violet reflections, broader lightening at the rim, ochre reflections. Dark berry fruit, underlaid with mocha roasting aromas, tobacco nuances, but also some cassis and blackberry notes, multi-faceted, attractive bouquet. Substantial body, dark berry fruit, firm, well-integrated tannins, finesse-rich acidity, shows good extract sweetness and length, has reliable aging potential.

Vertdevin November - 2021
Vertdevin
On the nose, it is aromatic, delicate and subtly powerful. There are notes of truffle, fairly ripe blackberry, raspberry combined with humus, mint, pepper as well as a discreet hint of ripe black cherry and a subtle touch of pepper. On the palate, it is fruity, balanced, refined and offers juiciness, a tangy structure, minerality, good definition, a touch of smoothness, a certain sapidity, deep indulgence and freshness. This wine expresses notes of pulpy/juicy blackcurrant, ripe/tangy red berries and more lightly truffle combined with small touches of undergrowth/humus, fresh nutmeg as well as discreet minty hints and a subtle touch of pepper. The tannins are very fine, delicate and delicious. Beautiful sapidity in the finish/persistence. Beautiful refined/gravelly minerality.

Jancis Robinson March - 2010

Fragrant. Much less concentrated than the Barton but an attractive expression of the vintage and appellation. Dry overall and quite sinewy. You could start to drink this even though it is far from its apogee.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
A sensuous, ripe, harmonious bouquet soars seductively from the glass; red-berried fruit, leather, scorched earth, orange peel and a touch of marmalade. Very good definition. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, lovely focus and purity, seamless texture, cedar and smoke laced black fruits with a touch of graphite towards the finish. This 2000 just does not put a foot wrong.

Jeannie Cho Lee March - 2015

This is a gorgeous Leoville Poyferre with vibrant flavors of plum, cassis and sweet spices. This is delicious now but the structure suggests it will age for at least a decade or two easily. Well done!

Château Leoville Poyferre
Château Leoville Poyferre

Château Léoville Poyferré is a Bordeaux wine estate. Under the Saint Julien appellation, it is classified as a second growth in the official 1855 Médoc wine classification.

During the reign of Louis XIII, in 1638, Master Jean de Moytié, an ennobled Bordeaux bourgeois and counselor to the Parliament of Bordeaux, owned a vineyard planted on a gravel hill near the River. This gave the place the name "Mont-Moytié", following the custom of the time to designate a place by the name of its owner. The Mont-Moytié cru was part of these first historical growths of the Médoc, all born before the Fronde (1648-1653). The Médoc was then giving birth to its first parish growths.

This beautiful vineyard, originating from the former Léoville estate in northern Saint-Julien, is one of the best terroirs of the appellation and certainly the richest of the second growths. The 80 hectares planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc produce a deep and rich wine.

Château Léoville Poyferré produces elegant, very fine, balanced, and complex wines with intense color and velvety texture, which have excellent aging potential.
