Expert's opinions

at best (2-1992) A rich yet elegant wine.

(1-1998) Several tastings in the early eighties must have been from less-than-perfect bottles because I was never excited by this wine. Tastings in the late eighties and nineties revealed a terrific, fully mature wine, splendidly perfumed with cedar, herbs, and sweet black fruits, rich, full-bodied, and long. Based on the best bottles, this wine is fully mature, but is capable of lasting for another decade.

Château Leoville Barton
Château Leoville Barton
Château Léoville Barton is a wine estate located in the heart of Saint-Julien, in the Gironde region. Benefiting from the appellation of its commune, it is classified as a Second Grand Cru in the 1855 classification. The 45-hectare Leoville Barton vineyard is planted with 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 8% Cabernet Franc, on a marvelous terroir renowned as the best in the world for vines, and benefiting from ideal climatic conditions. Aging: 18 to 20 months in oak barrels, on average 60% new Due to the absence of a château on this terroir, the wine is traditionally aged in the cellars of its sister estate, Langoa-Barton, which it regularly outclasses despite identical grape varieties and vinification. Very well-balanced, this wine with a powerful and generous character is considered one of the best Saint-Julien wines.
