Cellar Tracker March - 2024
Cellar Tracker
Pale brick red, very wide orange edge, 3.5 Mature ethereal mushroomy bouquet which after 15 min. turned more pencil like Delicate palate, lT, m+A, l+B, dry, really very evolved and almost fragile. Appears much older than it’s real age but interesting and enjoyable.

Jancis Robinson June - 2010

(6-2010) This was a strange wine as at the beginning it was rather tart and disappointing. And after 45 minutes or so it was starting to return to that state, but about 20-30 minutes after pouring it was absolutely glorious in typically Lafite lighter, but soaring, register. Mid ruby. A bit rusty. Light and a bit raw. Very light in fact. Lots of acidity. But then it came out and, I suspect, would have been even more impressive had it not been served alongside the powerhouse of Latour 1970.

Château Lafite Rothschild
Château Lafite Rothschild

Château Lafite Rothschild, 1st growth classified in 1855, is one of the most renowned Bordeaux châteaux. It shares the top position with the greatest in the official 1855 classification. Located in the Pauillac appellation, the 103-hectare vineyard is divided into three plots: the slopes surrounding the château, the Carruades plateau to the west, and a 4.5-hectare plot in the neighboring commune of Saint-Estèphe. The majority of the terroir consists of fine, deep gravel mixed with aeolian sand on a tertiary limestone base. The grape variety composition is 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. The average age of the vines for the grand vin is 40 years, with the 20 hectares of young vines (less than 10 years old) being used for the second wine. There are also extremely old plots of over 80 years, one called "La Gravière" even dating back to 1886. Wine maturation is carried out for 18 to 20 months in 100% new oak barrels. Lafite Rothschild produces approximately 15,000 to 20,000 cases per year. The estate also produces a second wine, Carruades de Lafite, with about 25,000 to 30,000 cases. The name of Château Lafite Rothschild's second wine comes from the "Carruades plateau", where a group of plots was located, which was purchased by the château in the 19th century and adjoined the château's hillock. The "Carruades de Lafite" was formerly called "Moulin des Carruades", before taking on the name Carruades de Lafite.

The legendary vintages of Château Lafite Rothschild are 1921, 1945, 1959, 1982, 1986, 1988 and 2000, 2005 in recent years.
