1945 La Mission Haut Brion from Magnum… This was my first time with this legendary wine. OMG, that’s “Oh My God”, is the best descriptor I can fathom. This wine was so fragrant, just popping the bottle would fill a room with its aromatics. Earthy, truffle, forest floor, spice, tobacco, fresh herbs, coffee and smoke do not begin to describe what you can find in this wine. Incredible layers of concentrated fruit that is ripe, fat and rich, further complicated with decades of age excite your senses. Chocolate, raspberry, cherry, strawberry, licorice, leather and coffee linger on your palate over sixty seconds while your remaining senses catch up to get in on the party. The wine offers an intense purity of fruit that is difficult to find, especially after 60 years of age.

Château La Mission Haut-Brion is one of the most emblematic estates of Pessac-Léognan, recognized for the depth, longevity and singularity of its red and white wines. Classified as Cru Classé de Graves, the château shares with its illustrious neighbor Château Haut-Brion an ancient history and an exceptional terroir, while asserting its own stylistic identity, often described as more powerful and more earthy.

Planted on deep gravel soils mixed with clays and sands, the vineyard benefits from a grape variety dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for the reds, complemented by Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc for the whites. This diversity allows for precise blends, giving birth to wines of great aromatic intensity, structured, but always balanced.
