(6-2008). Pale ruby. Was there some rot here? Slightly metallic nose. Dry palate – austere, and dried out. Opened out in the glass – a bit more rose petal flavour in the glass as it opened out. Gothic austerity according to Oz. Keep it in the mouth for a minute. .

(5-2008). Tasted double decanted. The color is dark, of medium intensity and evolved. The wine presents itself as aromatic, very fruity. Melted and rich palate. The wine glides throughout the tasting and finishes long and meticulous in its refined tannic texture. Very good length. I would be curious to taste this wine in magnum and especially not double decanted. I think it could be much superior.

The 1966 La Mission-Haut-Brion, never quite as rich and deep as the 1964, is still a beautifully made, elegant La Mission, with a very cedary and leather-scented, fruity bouquet, medium to full body, and a long, supple, velvety finish. I would advise those who have it in their wine collections to consume it over the next 4-5 years. It does not appear capable of getting any better, and may, in fact, be just starting to lose the fruit. .
