Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Moderate garnet core with tawny rim. The nose is quite attractive, expressing the heat of the summer but without any greenness like some ‘89s show. The Merlot is quite dominant, cooked meats, a touch of smoke, tobacco coming through in its slipstream. For a Margaux it is masculine, but it has retained good vigour as it enters adulthood although returning ten minutes later it is oxidizing more rapidly than I would like. The palate is medium-bodied, supple in texture, not particularly complex but feminine, lithe and wily. A very drinkable d’Issan that slips down the throat with ease, though it lacks some length and drifts away on the finish with a little volatility on the aftertaste. Commendable wine though.

Slightly past its prime-time drinking window, now you find more tertiary notes than fruits, with a pleasant, albeit, short, bright red berry, earth, herb, olive, and forest note in the finish. Drink this sooner than later before the remainder of the fruit fades any further.

Jean-Marc Quarin February - 1993
Jean-Marc Quarin
Dark red color, good intensity. Evolved. Bright. Clean nose, medium intensity. Slightly cooked fruit, with a fresh touch and at the same time slightly sour. Medium intensity when swirled. Vegetal. Soft attack, developing on a flabby structure. The wine evolves on tannins lacking roundness that finish too woody and slightly dry with a bitter edge. Yet the persistence returns with richness. Rustic woodiness.

Château D'Issan
Château D'Issan
Château d'Issan, Margaux, 3rd Classified Growth classified as 3rd Growth in 1855. Château d'Issan is a magnificent property located on the banks of the Gironde, it is said that the wine of Issan was served at the wedding of Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry Plantagenet in 1152. The grape variety composition of Château d'Issan is classic, with about three-quarters Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a naturally fine Margaux, which can be rich and round when the vintage allows. In recent years, the vintages vinified by Emmanuel Cruse have proven to be even denser and more complex.
