If multiple bottles are in stock, the photo is non-contractual and illustrates the condition of the bottle.

1998 was an exceptional climatic year and the traditionally precocious vineyards, such as Château Haut Brion, were able to benefit in abundance from this fabulous climatic potential.
This classified growth has a very classic dense color. On the nose, it has a very nice complexity and great richness. The whole evolves in a great softness where the smoothness and the inky side of the great ports mingle. The slightly caramelized ripe fruit joins in a discreet woodiness. The tannin is superb, still firm. The whole has volume, the whole has a rich power still in the making. A very nice bottle for laying down.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 1998 Haut-Brion is the finest vintage from this estate between 1989 and 2000, surpassing the 1990. While it remains decidedly youthful at age 25, it is beginning to stir, unfurling in the glass with aromas of dark berry fruit, cigar wrapper, loamy soil, pencil shavings and burning embers. Medium-bodied, deep and concentrated, it's layered and elegant, with refined tannins, lively acids and a long, perfumed finish. Exemplifying the ideal of intensity without weight, it enjoys a slight edge over La Mission Haut-Brion in this banner year for both properties.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Just when you think this wine could not get any better, 2 years later, it seems to have developed more richness, complexity, and vibrancy. The full-bodied, rich, concentrated wine offers endless waves of dark red fruits, smoke, cigar box, cedar, tar, leather, and campfire aromatics. Rich, intense, balanced, fresh, and refined, if you have the extra money hanging around, this is the Haut Brion to buy today. Drink from 2022-2060.

(2009). Dark color, with decadent aromas of truffles, meat, ripe berries and tobacco. Turns to sweet, crushed berries. Full-bodied, with very polished tannins and a berry and mineral aftertaste. The serious tannin structure is still hiding behind the fruit of the wine. Tightly wound and beautiful. Solid as a rock. A classic wine. —.

(4-2008). Deep crimson still. Although there is trademark Haut Brion underneath there is already beguiling tertiary perfume on top. There’s a richness underneath. Warm and spicy and very charming. Acidity is noticeable. A lovely bouquet already. Dry finish – quite a bit of tannin still – one will hope that the fruit outlives the tannin… the first wine where I have wondered about this. The nose seems to be galloping ahead of the tannins, but on past performance it should be fine.

Château Haut Brion
Château Haut Brion

Château Haut-Brion is one of the most iconic wines of Bordeaux. In 1855, it received the supreme distinction of First Growth, an exceptional recognition as it is the only non-Médoc estate to appear in the classification of Médoc wines, while also being classified as Graves Classified Growth. Today it is an absolute reference of the Pessac-Léognan appellation.

Its terroir, similar to that of Château Latour, gives Haut-Brion wines a unique nobility. Without seeking extreme power, the wine distinguishes itself through its elegance, the finesse of its tannins and a remarkable aging capacity, often considered one of the greatest in Bordeaux.

Château Haut-Brion is the oldest, and also the smallest in surface area, of the Bordeaux First Growths, alongside Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Latour, Château Margaux and Château Mouton Rothschild. While the presence of vines in the region dates back to Roman times, the first written mention of the vineyard dates from 1423. The estate was founded in 1525 by Jean de Pontac and quickly gained international renown. Its reputation was such that it participated in the very birth of the notion of Grand Cru, mentioned as early as 1663 by Samuel Pepys in his famous diary. More recently, the estate belonged to Clarence Douglas Dillon, former U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, further contributing to its prestige.

Among the most iconic vintages of Château Haut-Brion are: Château Haut-Brion 1928, Château Haut-Brion 1945, Château Haut-Brion 1953, Château Haut-Brion 1959, Château Haut-Brion 1961, Château Haut-Brion 1982, Château Haut-Brion 1990, Château Haut-Brion 1995 and Château Haut-Brion 2000.
