Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Another unbelievably rich, multidimensional, broad-shouldered wine, with slightly more elegance and less weight than the powerhouse 1996, this gorgeously proportioned, medium to full-bodied, fabulously ripe, rich, cassis-scented and flavored Grand-Puy-Lacoste is a beauty. This classic Pauillac is a worthy rival to the other-worldly 1996. Wow! What extraordinary wines Grand-Puy-Lacoste has produced in both 1995 and 1996. At present, I have a marginal preference for the blockbuster 1996, but I am not about to argue with anybody who prefers the 1995! Both are compelling wines.

Served decanted, with roast pigeon. A remarkable and very gastronomic pairing: the best is not the best on its own, but in combination. A pleasant surprise.

A mature classic nose. Cassis, some saddle leather, bricks, bell pepper and roses. At this point it's fully mature and in the zone for me. There aren't any particular aspects of this wine that stand out; rather everything is in concert with a pretty seamless sense of clarity and focus that is laudable. A lovely mix of mature fruit, savory and soil. Everything is in harmony here. It's not a blockbuster, but it's at its apogee and offering a ton of contemplative pleasure. Medium long finish with a little '95 austerity that I kind of dig. Drink up. It's delicious right now.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Firm, crisp and bright red fruits with a stoic nature create the backbone of the wine. Very classic in nature, the wine is firm, tannic, full-bodied and crunchy with a tannic bite. With its tobacco, cedar, cigar box, forest floor, herb and red berry perfume, the wine is more interesting on the nose than the palate. Giving this a few hours of air will help, but the nature of 1995 vintage is strong here.

Not decanted. Logo on the cork: BLS. Dark color, medium intensity and evolved. Intense nose, fruity, vanilla, ripe, mineral. Delicate but present entry on the palate. The wine develops slender, with a taste of well-ripened fruit and finishes slightly tannic, but flavorful. Good length.

Blackish crimson. Sweet, ripe start with even a hint of milk chocolate on the nose. Fresh start.
