(09-1998) Lovely, deep, rich colour; ripe mulberry, a hint of mint; very distinctive, full of fruit, some finesse and elegance, spicy tannic finish.
Tannic monster. Full-bodied, with masses of superripe fruit and mouthpuckering tannins. Port lovers like me love this stuff. Age it for decades to come.
(05-2015) Very dense and still with very notable tannins and tightness! Thick and dense with some future development ahead of it. If the Lynch Bages 2005 served beside it was surprisingly evolved, this was the reverse.
(11-2014) Delicious with complex layers of sweet spice, red fruit and black truffle. Medium bodied with generous, intense flavors and a long finish. Often under-valued compared to its more pricey neighbors, this vintage shows Le Gay is one of the best wines from Pomerol.
(01-2003) This wine seems to get better and better, and is certainly the only great Le Gay of recent years. This dark ruby/purple-colored wine has a nose of blueberries, minerals, and white flowers. The wine shows plenty of sweetness, real opulence, high tannins, but sweeter, more civilized tannins than most Le Gays tend to possess. It is a very muscular, full-bodied style of wine that should age effortlessly for another 15-20 years. Anticipated maturity: Now-2020. Last tasted, 11/02.
