Expert's opinions

88-(4-2005) Harvested at 13.6% natural potential alcohol and revealing a spicy nose of toasted oak, minerals, spices, and crisp pears, the 2003 Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche (white) displays more depth and “material” than Drouhin’s other 2003s. Light to medium-bodied, it reveals flavors of white fruits, oak, minerals, and notes of buttered toast. Though shorter than would be expected for a wine from this terroir of unsurpassed pedigree, it is delicious, well-structured, and complex.

89-(7-2005) At present, this is quite oaky yet the density of the ripe orchard fruit nose and powerful, indeed muscular and robust flavors that are sufficiently concentrated that it should integrate with time. The Drouhin Montrachet is usually one of the more elegant and restrained example of the vineyard but the '03 is not built along those lines. Rather, this is a bruiser that has plenty of everything including noticeable finishing warmth. In short, this isn't my style yet this is a solid, impressively complex effort that very much reflects the style of the vintage.

(1-2005) Big and juicy. Great texture. Lively. A bit hot on the finish.

Drouhin (J.)
"A revelation, a wonder! The ruby color is of great beauty, taking on increasingly warm hues with age. The intense aromas evoke raspberry and wild cherry, becoming more complex over the years: forest floor, truffle, candied fruits... A sublime structure, with noble and refined tannins. The ideal of elegant perfection according to Joseph Drouhin, with a remarkable balance. An astonishing persistence of aromas in the mouth. Tasting is a great emotion".
