(2-2005) Deep crimson. Correct but surprisingly lightweight rendition of Hermitage. Certainly no faults, just very slightly timid with a bit of dustiness on the finish. Just very slightly too rustic. Quite brutal and big, but then I suppose that’s Hermitage. Very, very uncompromisingly ‘masculine’.

(2-2001) This is a powerful, rich wine, aged in 50% new oak and 50% one-year old barrels. It is bottled with neither fining nor filtration. The 1998 Hermitage Marquise de la Tourette exhibits a remarkably huge, chewy mid-palate as well as formidable persistence, but it is very tannic and backward. Readers who are not willing to invest 8-10 years of cellaring should forget about this wine. Some toasty new oak is present, but the primary characteristic is the layers of black fruits intertwined with minerals.

The Maison Delas et frères was founded in 1835 in Tournon-sur-Rhône. Managed by the Delas family until 1977, the estate was then acquired by the family-owned company Champagnes Deutz.

It is therefore Fabrice who is now at the helm of Deutz/Delas.

The Domaine Delas Frères operates several plots in different appellations. The estate currently comprises 32 hectares: 10 hectares in Hermitage, 17 hectares in Crozes-Hermitage, and 2 hectares in Saint-Joseph. The Domaine owns vines that are approximately 40 years old and carries out its harvests by hand.
