Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Bordeaux light, but not nearly as bad as I had expected. The nose was the best part with its tobacco, earth, gravel, red berry and spicy aromatics. Medium bodied, lacking intensity, but it offered a certain type of fully mature, Bordeaux charm in its light, red berry dominated finish. Much of the success of this bottle was clearly due to the fact that is was shared by the original owner who took care of it since release.

Château Cos D'Estournel
Château Cos D'Estournel

Château Cos d'Estournel is one of the most iconic estates of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux. Classified as Second Grand Cru Classé in 1855, it owes its singular identity to its location on the Cos hillside and to the bold vision of its founder, Louis-Gaspard d'Estournel, a prominent figure of the 19th century nicknamed the "Maharajah of Saint-Estèphe".

From its beginnings, Cos d'Estournel established itself through an international ambition rare for the time, exporting its wines as far as Asia. This openness to the world is still reflected today in the unique architecture of the château, inspired by the Far East, a true visual signature in the Médoc. The vineyard rests on terroir of deep gravel mixed with clay, benefiting from the proximity of the Gironde estuary, giving the wines structure, depth and complexity.
