Jancis Robinson May - 2009

Mid gold. Spicy linseed nose but also pure and peachy orange fruit. Delicate and much lighter in texture in the mouth and less intoxicating. Finesse, purity and delicacy on the finish and a bitter orange aftertaste to enhance the freshness, even though the acidity is (analytically) quite moderate.

Lovely nose, flowers, peaches and lemon meringue pie. Honeyed and luscious, with lovely acidity and a clean, very long finish.

Delicate and silky wine, not very powerful but very pleasant.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Pale to medium gold in color, the 1998 Climens has a nose of chalk dust, lemongrass, straw and dried apples with hints of candied lemons and toasted almonds. The palate is a little tired and fading, with pleasant nutty/savory notions and a bit of dryness to the finish. Drink up!

Château Climens
Château Climens is a 30-hectare wine estate located in Barsac, Gironde. In the Barsac AOC, it is classified as a Premier Grand Cru in the official 1855 Bordeaux classification. The 30-hectare continuous vineyard sits on red clay-sand soil over limestone. The grape variety is 100% Sémillon (one of the few single-variety vineyards in the region), with a density of 6,600 vines/ha and an average vine age of 35 years. Climens produces only sweet white wine. Climens' yields are particularly low, averaging 7 hl/ha, or even 4 hl/ha in difficult years, allowing for exceptional quality and concentration. The estate produces a second wine called Cyprès de Climens or Les Cyprès de Climens, in memory of a curious tradition: when boats paid their toll (right of passage) on the Ciron, they were given a blue cypress branch to prove payment. Outstanding vintages: 1971, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990, 2001, 2005. Overall, the wines produced at Climens are consistently high-flying and of high quality. This is due to the high-quality production standards demanded by Bérénice Lurton and her team.
