PAVILLON ROUGE du Château Margaux 1994

Pavillon Rouge is the second wine of Château Margaux. It comes from the same vineyards and benefits from the estate's expertise. Pavillon Rouge is made from lots that are not selected for the grand vin, generally from vines that are still too young. It offers a more accessible expression of Château Margaux's style. More supple and fruity in its youth, it allows one to discover the finesse and elegance of this prestigious Premier Grand Cru Classé.

The climatic conditions of the 1994 vintage are quite similar to 1993. However, the heavy rains that marked the harvest occurred too late to really hinder the ripening of the grapes.
Pavillon Rouge 1994 from Château Margaux is rather similar to the 1993, although it is a bit more powerful and tannic. This second wine should be drunk without waiting too long.

Good color. Slight evolution. Clean. Medium intensity. Bouquet. A little prune, a little alcohol, a little undergrowth. Similar. It is surprising, after tasting the 2002 and 2001, to find permanence in the style of this wine. Very tasty, elegant in its body, it loves a noble and pleasant taste and finishes silky, with a note of cedar. No drying out. Bravo.

Château Margaux
Château Margaux

Château Margaux is one of the greatest wine estates in Bordeaux. In AOC, Margaux is listed among the First Growth wines in the official 1855 Médoc classification.

If it is a privilege to bear the name of its Margaux appellation, there is no doubt that Château Margaux does great honor to it.

For several centuries, this Premier Cru Classé has expressed to the highest degree the exceptional qualities of terroirs patiently gathered by several generations of owners. Maintained and harvested exclusively by hand with extreme care, the 78 hectares of vines (75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) draw their richness very deeply from a particularly dense and thick clay-gravel soil.

Fermentation in oak vats, after which the wine is strictly selected, is followed by 18 to 24 months of aging in new oak barrels. A masterpiece among Bordeaux wines, considered by some to be the best, Château Margaux reveals finesse and opulence, depth and complexity in tasting, and develops a bouquet of rare elegance with notes of rose, violet, and black fruits, underpinned by tight tannins that require patient aging before reaching their full potential. The château also produces a second wine, Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux, and a dry white wine, Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux (100% Sauvignon Blanc).

The greatest vintages of Château Margaux are: 1900, 1928, 1953, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1989, 1990
