Expert's opinions

A very Yquem nose, sweet, fruity and assertive, and on the palate, the surprise: it's almost a dry wine. We don't have the fleshiness, the fruitiness of a generous Yquem, but what a pleasure to discover.

François Audouze (06-2009). We then had the gift of the evening. Alexandre de Lur Saluces to whom I told my excitement drinking Yquem 1932 had agreed to join us, because curiosity was too. I never opened this beautiful bottle corked, and the remark immediately Alexandre de Lur Saluces was interesting: "It is likely that today we have a vintage vinified any other way". It is very characteristic, because Alexandre de Lur Saluces, concerned with his current harvest or begin thinking of the work is done. My approach is to focus on the testimony. He had the guests take advantage of this year so rarely open. That testimony, what he delivers, which is desired above all. We know in 1932 that drinking it will not be 1929, grand. But it was 1932 that must be discovered. A nose very Yquem, sweet, fruity, assertive and mouth, surprise: it's almost a dry wine. It is not fleshy, fruit of a generous Yquem, but what a pleasure to discover.

(5-1999). Not a good year for Sauternes, but it's a nice dessert wine with lovely aromas of ripe apricot and grapes accented by lemon, spice and notes of orange caramel. Mirrors in the vintage finish a little dry, cedar. .

Château d'Yquem
Château d'Yquem

Château d'Yquem is an absolute reference for great sweet wines and occupies a unique place in the wine history of Bordeaux. Located in the heart of the Sauternes appellation, the estate benefits from exceptional terroir and microclimate that favor the development of botrytis cinerea. During the official classification of 1855, Château d'Yquem obtained an unparalleled status by being consecrated Premier Cru Supérieur, a unique distinction among the great classified growths.

The identity of Château d'Yquem is based on extreme rigor at every stage of production: very low yields, harvesting by successive selections and rigorous selection of grapes. Long owned by the Lur Saluces family, the estate has belonged since 1997 to the LVMH group, which has chosen to preserve the technical independence and historical rigor of the château.

In great years, Château d'Yquem gives birth to vintages that have become emblematic, such as Château d'Yquem 1908, Château d'Yquem 1921, Château d'Yquem 1945, Château d'Yquem 1949, Château d'Yquem 1967, Château d'Yquem 2009, illustrating an exceptional aging capacity, which can extend over several decades, or even beyond.
