Expert's opinions

Information on the vintage 1945 red Bordeaux: Arguably one of the greatest vintages of the 20th century and in my opinion eclipsing the 1961. An early harvest yielded magnificent long-lasting wines of the highest quality. The best and best kept are still superb. I think I was born and entered the wine trade at the right time for I see I have over 200 notes covering a wide range of chateaux of this great vintage.

Château Cadet Piola
The Château Cadet-Piola vineyard was established in the mid-18th century. Today, it comprises 7 hectares of vines consisting of 51% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Pressac. The vines are approximately 35 years old and are rooted in clay-limestone soil. The harvest is carried out by hand, and sorting is done directly on the vine during harvest. The wines are then aged in barrels before bottling. Production averages 32,000 bottles per year. At Château Cadet-Piola, emphasis is placed on the importance of terroir. It must express itself fully and reveal the authenticity of its origins. The wines are balanced, with the wood not masking the wine's freshness and complexity.
