Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
(04-2006) Proprietor Patrick Maroteaux, president of Unions des Grands Crus Classes, is pulling out all the stops to make Branaire as alluring as several of the Leovilles and Ducru Beaucaillou. 2003 and 2004 may be the finest back-to-back vintages ever produced at Branaire. Even better than the 1982, the profound 2003 Branaire Ducru boasts a saturated plum/purple color as well as an extraordinarily complex nose of black currants, blackberries, espresso roast, white chocolate, minerals, and truffles. It displays amazing freshness and definition for such a complex, complete, and full-bodied wine. A brilliant effort in the vintage, it will undoubtedly close down in several years and need more time, but perhaps its low acidity and huge, extravagant fruit-forwardness will keep it drinking well over the next two decades. A brilliant wine!

(09-2013) This is the third time in fifteen months that this wine surprises me for its high quality. While many of 2003 are losing their fat and are getting austere, this one shines through its complex nose, its ample, graceful, powerful and delicious mouth.

Château informations
Branaire Ducru
Banaire Ducru is on a parcel of 50 hectares located on the gravel soil of Beychevelle, Chateau Ducru-Branaire is now a landmark in St. Julien. The cru is prized for its pure red fruit. Its typical composition of Cabernet Sauvignon in the majority, and Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, opens with bright aromas of raspberry and blackberry, before becoming more complex on the palate with delicate nuances of mineral, pencil lead, smoke and spring flowers. This wine of exemplary quality differs from its famous neighbor by its originality: tasting reveals inevitably, under the red fruit and elegant tannins, a touch of spice and chocolate aroma rare in this appellation.
