Jean-Marc Quarin November - 2003

We leave the firmness of the Médoc and allow ourselves to be pampered by the velvety softness of Pomerol. I remind you that 1989 is an essential vintage in this appellation. From the nose in the glass, I notice once again that one can confuse Pomerol with Pessac-Léognan. The nose is smoky and slightly truffled. On the palate, the wine does not go to the sides. It flows straight ahead, always velvety. Its creamy character, very typical of successful Pomerol, arouses immense pleasure. The tannin remains very coated and well hidden in the flesh. However, in the context of this evening, this wine will lack subtlety and complexity on the finish. At this stage, Palmer still retains this fine advantage.

Still holding on, but clearly on the downward slope, the color and fruit have lightened. The earthy truffle, mocha and plum nose is still going strong. The softly textured wine leaves you with earthy, red and black plums with a bit of dark chocolate. Still, this is not a wine for decanting or for holding on for further development. If you have a bottle, drink up.

Cellar Tracker November - 2022

This is not a very complex wine, but it is smooth, elegant, and still has a lot of life. Plum, currant, and a touch of cinnamon and cocoa. This took about 20 minutes to open up, but from that point onward (into day 2) was drinking quite well. Not a wine to contemplate, but certainly one to enjoy.
