Vinum Wine Magazine November - 2010
Vinum Wine Magazine
Everything about this wine is superlative, today more than ever. One can certainly love more than one wine at once! Otherwise I would be committing outright betrayal of the '88 Krug. After this wine, one can stop drinking. There is nothing better. The bouquet has become even more complex – pastry, candied fruits, dried apricot, a hint of kiwi and star fruit, herbs, flowers – on the palate beckons absolute class (“de la grâce”, as the French would say, grace) a mousse of ultimate finesse, yet also a juiciness and incredible dynamism, all refined and elevated... Captivating, delightful, brilliant.

Creamy, evolved flattering nose. Sweet and rich and lemon cream palate – not especially champagne-like in fact. Clean, brisk finish. Good, racy finish.

A full-bodied, biscuity Bollinger that is at its peak now. The 1996 has taken a long time to come around but the vintage is now showing its full expression: white flowers, toasted nuts and biscuits. Generous and full a classic Bollinger.

Blockbuster aromas of honey and toast, ripe apples and citrus are complex from the first pour and develop even more complexity with air, turning meatier and more savory. Creamy and smooth in the mouth, with cascading flavors of buttered nuts and lush fruit, all balanced by great acidity and length.

Massively herbal nose, filled with figgy richness and full, fat, toasty aromas. Gorgeous quality of fruit floods over the palate, with fabulous fruit sweetness. Quite rich and rolling in the mouth, there is huge pear and ogen melon fruit ripeness but razor-sharp lemon acidity too. Endlessly long, this is a superb Champagne.

Château Bollinger
Bollinger
The history of Bollinger, founded in 1829 in Champagne in the village of Aÿ, is that of a family who has always passionately defended a unique know-how. The famous "Aunt Lily", who presided over the destiny of the House from 1941, established very strict quality rules that would guide, from then on and still today, the leaders who would succeed her.
