Produced under the Pomerol appellation, Petrus produces only one red Bordeaux wine. Although it is not listed in any classification, in the eyes of wine lovers Petrus<\/a><\/strong> is one of the most prestigious Bordeaux wines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Petrus represents taste excellence and rarity. Its unique terroir and its history allowed it to acquire the notoriety of a great wine.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

But then how did it become a myth?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Through this Latin name, we could believe that this estate has centuries and centuries of history behind it. However, Petrus<\/a><\/strong> is very recent. However, created in the 13th<\/strong> century, it was only from 1925<\/strong> that the myth was to be established, when the Loubat family took over the reins of the estate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From then on, the managers decided to completely review the wine production. Vineyard yields were reduced to a minimum, grapes were chosen by hand… This new operation considerably propelled the estate into history, with an extraordinary 1945 vintage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now run by the Moueix family, Petrus has unquestionably become one of the best-known great wines in the world and has maintained its notoriety over the decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Very charming and harmonious, the great wine is characterized by elegance and intense color. At the tasting, Petrus develops a complex and powerful nose, a particularly opulent fruit. It can be kept for 25 years and more in great years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The best vintages are 1982, 1985, the 1989 vintage, 2005 and the 2009 vintage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Petrus 1989 is a truly awesome Pomerol. Here it has a compelling, multi-dimensional, pristine bouquet with intense red fruit loaded with minerals, faint touches of black truffle and bay leaf, a hint of clove and warm brick. You can feel the warmth of the summer but it possesses quite awe-inspiring delineation. The palate is medium-bodied, the tannins having softened in recent years but still it retains that symmetrical structure and focus that is totally bewitching. Yet it all seems so effortless, so that you almost do not sense that power unless you really focus upon it. The finish fans out with hints of graphite coming through the layers of mellow red and black fruit laced with clove and just a faint hint of peppermint, whilst the finish is virtually endless. This is an extraordinary Petrus.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

“Poured at lunch with Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Moueix and Jean-Claude Berrouet. This is a lovely Petrus that has reached its drinking plateau. The nose is generous, very expressive, blossoming into dark fruits, charcuterie, a touch of hung game and leather, some roasted chestnut evolving with age. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins. One could say almost rustic, which only adds to the charm. It has certainly mellowed over the last five years, from dried herbs to the complex, sensual finish. I’m not sure this will prove to be a long-lived Petrus, but it is lovely nonetheless.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
