Château Latour, First Classified Growth wine from Bordeaux (Pauillac)

Château Latour, First classified Growth wine in 1855

Château LatourChâteau Latour was created in 1680, making it one of the oldest chateaux of the Médoc.

For all these years, the Château has constantly improved its techniques and know-how. This constant pursuit of excellence allows it to maintain its excellent reputation, in both good and bad years.

In 1855, Latour obtained the highest distinction of Premier Cru Classé on the occasion of the official ranking of Bordeaux wines in 1855. This ranking divides the biggest red wines of the Médoc in 5 categories: first growth, second growth, third growth, fourth growth and fifth growth wines. Only 5 Châteaux share the title of 1er Cru Classé: Château Lafite-Rothschild, Château Latour, Château Margaux, Château Mouton Rothschild and Château Haut-Brion

Château Latour wine is an example of regularity regardless of the quality of the vintage. Firm, tannic and concentrated in its youth, it requires long aging to reveal all its depth, power and extraordinary richness. At perfect maturity, the wine is distinguished by an incredible bouquet of blackcurrant, hazelnut and leather.

Château Latour 2000Château Latour is made from only the old vines, from the contiguous enclosed land surrounding the chateau (an area of 47 ha), some of which are almost 100 years old.

At the heart of the estate, the main parcel, called "l'Enclos", is made up of 47 hectares of old vines that are preciously maintained, because only they are able to give birth to the "Grand Vin". The 18 hectares of exterieur plots, the vines that are less than 10 years old and the possibly downgraded cuvées, produce the second wine of the estate, "Les Forts de Latour".

  • Aging: in new barrels for 18 months.
  • Average grape variety: 75% Cabernet Sauvignon; 20% Merlot; 4% Cabernet Franc; 1% of Petit Verdot.
