Information on the vintage 1970 red Bordeaux: A highly important vintage in many ways: it's fine quality and it's timing provided a jump start to the wine boom which was already hotting up. There was every reason to believe that it wa going to be a highly satisfactory vintage, and as important in its way as the 'millennium' vintage three decades later.

MOUTON-ROTHSCHILD: The entire history of Château Mouton Rothschild is linked to the passion that Baron Philippe de Rothschild devoted to it from the age of 20. In 1853, Nathaniel de Rothschild bought the Brane Mouton vineyard and immediately renamed it Mouton Rothschild. However, the property attracted little interest from the family until Baron Philippe de Rothschild arrived in 1922. It is indeed thanks to him that Mouton became what it is today. With his strong character and sense of innovation, he initiated the complete bottling at the château, and was avant-garde with the creation of property-specific labels by famous painters (Miro, Chagall, Braque, Picasso, Delvaux...). His last challenge was to have Mouton Rothschild elevated to the rank of First Growth in 1973 after 20 years of struggle. Today, it is the worthy heir, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, who dedicates herself to upholding Mouton Rothschild's motto "First I am, Second I was, Mouton does not change."
