Expert's opinions

(8-2011) Fresh black raspberry, smoky black tea, and pungent Latakia tobacco in the nose of the 2006 Roc d’Anglade set the tone for a firm yet fine, buoyant, and bright palate on which red meat juices and saline and alkaline notes add intrigue and saliva-inducement. Amazingly, this long, lean Carignan-dominated blend was the first Roc d’Anglade to be aged in Stockinger foudres, so they were entirely new, yet there’s no sense of “oakiness.” I would plan on enjoying this over the next couple of years. Like other instantiations of Remy Pedreno’s red flagship, this represents a radical departure from wine-lovers’ expectations of Languedoc red. But if you can wrap your head around his concept, you may find yourself delighted, as I was, to wrap your tongue around the wine itself.
