For the 1981 vintage wines, difficult weather conditions but great successes. 

In Bordeaux, 1981 is the vintage of elegance par excellence. Certainly we could blame some wines for lack of concentration, a consequence of a torrential rain that interrupted the harvest, but a large number of wines surprise by offering texture, delicacy and a beautiful behavior over time.  The best wine sof the 1981 vintage are the Château Lafite Rothschild 1981, Château Latour 1981, the Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 1981, Château Giscours 1981, Château Figeac 1981... The sweet white wines of Sauternes appellation are disapointing, but Château d‘Yquem 1981 and Château Climens 1981 are the reference.

Then, in Burgundy, Autumn saves this vintage which went to the disaster. Severe at first, the 1981 mangled by frost and especially by the press enjoys a little later flattering comments. In Champagne the vintage is excellent and unfortunately extremely rare. The Krug Collection 1981, Salon or Bollinger 1981, are legendary champagnes.
