The 1979 vintage offers long-aging wines. 

In Bordeaux, although the year is cold, the yields are good and the quality of the wines is here. Pronounced tannins and good acidity make the wines with excellent aging potential. The Margaux, Graves and Pomerol stand out a bit. The best successes are : the Château Cos d’Estournel 1979, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse 1979, Château Gruaud Larose 1979, Château Margaux 1979, La Mission Haut Brion 1979 and Petrus 1979... 

In Burgundy the weather conditions are stormy which did not spare some wines. Although there are big differences, there are some very good successes. The best 1979 vintage wine is Domaine de La Romanée Conti 1979. In Champagne the vintage is exceptional from birth.
