Our opinion on the 1974 vintage: a mixed year in the vineyards

In Bordeaux, it was a particularly difficult year for the winegrowers, who suffered from catastrophic weather conditions. The result is an abundant harvest, but grapes full of water. On the other hand, the Graves, Pauillac and Pomerol appellations offer some great wines.

In Burgundy, the harvests took place in a cold and humid climate. As a result, the quality of this vintage becomes mediocre, and some Châteaux do not bottle their wine. This year, red wines are generally of higher quality than white wines.

Contrasting wines in the RhĂ´ne Valley with disappointing grape quality. In the north, we are not talking about a great vintage, but in the southern RhĂ´ne, it is a little better: the producers have carried out strict sorting to produce rather satisfactory wines.

In Champagne, the frosts at the end of March damaged the harvest, but the Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs are still satisfactory.

In summary, no region will have been truly privileged in 1974.
